The Best New Orleans Boutique Hotels

By Charles McDonald

When traveling for business, most people prefer to stay in a corporate hotel environment. Whereas, honeymooners, couples and families often prefer a more relaxed environment. As such, it can be good to know where to find the best New Orleans boutique Hotels.

While some areas of the city still show signs of demolition from Hurricane Katrina and more recent floods, most tourist areas remain in tact. As a result, those having visited the area in the past will find many of the same great establishments which existed before the storm. For new travelers, the bars and restaurants located in the French Quarter and along Bourbon Street are often good choices when it comes to food and fun.

While corporate hotels often have the highest prices, boutique hotels are still more costly than staying at a local youth hostel. For, while a number of hostel oriented websites promote prices of $20-$50 per night, many boutique and corporate chains are often upwards of $100 or more. As a result, anyone traveling on a shoe-string budget may want to check out the local youth hostel scene.

There are also a number of Air B&B and traditional bed and breakfasts located in the heart of the city. While Air B&B allows guests to take over an entire apartment or house for the duration of a stay, cooking and food are not provided. Whereas, traditional bed and breakfasts often allow for a hot breakfast cooked by owners along with the ability to converse with other guests over a meal.

One reason many individuals prefer to stay at youth hostels over hotels is that many guests often leave food and other items when departing. As such, these items are often placed on a free shelf in the pantry or refrigerator. Travelers can also find free clothes, shoes, towels and other items from time to time which prior guests have left in bins marked "free" at these establishments.

Bed and breakfasts can offer a great opportunity for honeymooners and those celebrating a special occasion. While this is the case, these establishments can often be booked a year or more in advance. As such, when planning a romantic stay at a bed and breakfast in the Crescent City, it is often best to book as far in advance as possible.

For larger families, an Air B&B might be a better option. When it comes to these newer lodging options, there are often multiple rooms. In most cases, these locations allow for stays which feel more like being "at home." As such, parents and children can all have the privacy necessary to maintain a peaceful presence while still experiencing a great stay.

Vacation packages are another option. These packages while often associated with an event can often be a convenient way to book a variety of attractions in one trip. Although, unless one plans on participating in all activities, attractions, events, festivals and other offerings, these can often be far more expensive than booking travel, lodging and purchasing tickets for various attractions, conferences, festivals or other events.
