Gymnastics involves one using a lot of flexibility, balance, strength, power, control, agility and coordination to perform various exercises involved. Gymnastics is among the oldest of sports in the world. This sport was invented in prehistoric Greece and over the years, it has undergone evolution into the present-day sport that it has become. Nowadays, the sport is performed in many nations around the world and competed in at the international level. This is worth knowing about Gymnastics in Delaware.

Running, stretching and swimming were among the activities involved in gymnastics in ancient Greece. According to history, modern gymnastics started around the late 1700s. Friedrich Jahn, a German citizen is considered as the father of contemporary gymnastics. Several apparatus that are being used in modern sport were invented by Jahn. Among the apparatus accredited to Jahn are the parallel bar and balance beam.

Jahn would later establish a gymnastic school with the goal of spreading the sport to other parts of the world in 1811. Elsewhere in Sweden, Guts Muth was introducing rhythmic gymnastics in the country. The introduction of the sport in the United State occurred around the time of the Civil War. It was done by Dr. Dudley Allen. The sport has since spread to most parts of the world.

The first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896 and they included a lot of a variation of male gymnastics such as rope climbing. The use of apparatus in Olympics was done in 1924 in Paris. Female routine were introduced in Olympic Games in 1928 in Amsterdam. The finalization of the routines seen in modern Olympic did not happen until 1960 in Rome.

There are six events in the Olympics for men. These include vault, parallel bars, till rings, pommel horse and floor exercises. In team competition, each member of a specific team separately performs the routines. Individuals get to earn a medal if they perform every gymnastic exercise with perfection.

In the international and Summer Olympics Games competition of artist gymnastics, women normally engage in four individual categories. The female competitors compete in balance, floor exercise, balance beam and uneven bars. Each of this event represents an Olympic event. Every member in the team is required to perform in all events. In case an artists excels in all events, the team has higher chances of winning a medal.

Rhythmic gymnastics was introduced to the Olympic Roster in 1984 and the event was performed for the first time in Los Angeles Summer Olympics. It is only women who perform this category of gymnastics at the Olympic level. There are five main events in the rhythmic category which are hoop, rope, ball, ribbon and clubs. In this event, the points are given based on execution, difficulty and artistry involved during the performance of the artist.

It was in 2000 that individual trampolining got added to Olympic roster. A trampoline is used for trampolining. In trampolining, artist must perform a series of 10 jumps and aerial skills non-stop. The points are awarded by the judges bases on the duration of the performance and level of difficulty. Currently the US has not managed to win any medal in the event during the Summer Olympic Games.
