What Counts As HCG Allowed Food

By Diane Rogers

Do you think that you could live on 500 calories a day? There is a diet plan that includes two small meals a day, with that meager total as the daily limit. This plan includes the use of a homeopathic version of a naturally-occurring hormone, human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which is said to boost the effects of such a strict diet by re-setting your metabolism to be more efficient at burning calories after the diet is over. You must get your calories from a list of hCG allowed food.

The diet calls for two meals a day, lunch and dinner. Each one can contain only 250 calories, so this is a starvation diet. No butter, oil, or sugar is allowed, and any meat must be trimmed so no fat remains. The human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG)is taken orally in homeopathic pellets, drops, or spray.

There are four food groups from which one food may be chosen for a menu. One is protein, one bread, one vegetable, and one fruit. This means that the meal, although very restricted in calories, is a balanced one. This kind of starvation diet is not recommended by most health professionals, but people continue to try drastic methods to lose weight and burn fat.

The bread might be a surprise, but don't get excited. The choice is one round of Melba toast or one bread stick. The crunchiness might be welcome as you force your body to live off its own fat stores, and the flavors will complement the vegetables that make up the bulk of your meal.

The protein can be a carefully measured piece of white fish, breast of chicken, veal, or beef, or a portion of shrimp, lobster, or crab. The meat should be grilled, which requires no added fat in cooking. Remember that no visible fat on the meat is allowed in this restrictive regime.

Green leafy vegetables are on the list, including spinach, chicory, chard, green lettuce, and beet greens. Other vegetable choices are red radishes, celery, fennel, cucumbers, asparagus, onions, and cabbage. Tomatoes are also allowed, which might surprise those used to low-carb diet plans. That's it for the vegetables that a dieter can choose from.

Fruit might be as surprising as the bread, but it is allowed. You can have your choice, as long as it's an apple, an orange, a grapefruit half, or a few strawberries. Coffee, tea, and water are the allowed beverages (sugar substitute may be used if its calorie-free), and these beverages are unlimited.

Critics of the use of hCG say that such severe restriction of calories would result in dramatic weight loss without adding the hormone. They say that there are no clinical results that point to appetite control, increased thermogenesis, faster metabolism, or any effect on the thyroid. However, many people report feeling more able to stick with the program while taking the hormone, and many feel that the combination makes losing stubborn fat easier than with any other diet plan. You will have to make up your own mind about trying this regime, which is said to 're-set' your metabolism and make maintaining an ideal weight possible once the diet is over.
